Smashies – A Wholesome, New Way to try Applesauce

A few weeks ago, I was given a pack container thing of applesauce to try at a conference. I promptly dropped it into my bag and forgot about it until the very last session of the day. I was hungry and a little tired so I started rummaging through my bag to see what I had in there. I came across the pouch (the official term) of Smashies and started to check it out. I mean, I knew that it was applesauce but other than that, nothing. I twisted open the lid and gave it a try.

For those of you unfamiliar with Smashies, the product comes in a pouch complete with its own straw. This is applesauce that was so good, I had to stop eating it so that I could let the kids try it.

Once the kids tried Smashies, they were hooked and asked for them by name. My five year old said that he wants one in his lunchbox everyday which I found odd because I am incredibly lazy and give him money to buy school lunch on a daily basis. The five year old also has a problem with regular applesauce brands because he does not understand why they put paper (which the rest of us call it pulp) in the applesauce. Smashies took this into consideration (not because of my son but I am sure it was someone else’s kid). The applesauce is thinner and more like a smoothie consistency. Although you don’t have to refrigerate Smashies, we keep ours in the back of the fridge where it gets coldest. They are ice cold when they come out.

I fell in love with Smashies because my entire family devoured them and they taste wonderful. My kids like something without sugar? I can hardly believe it but it is true. Smashies are:

smashies_logo7

  • Nutritious
  • Healthy
  • Sugar free
  • Convenient
  • Easy to eat
  • USDA Organic
  • Gluten free
  • Kosher
  • BPA free
  • Packaged in eco-friendly containers

I fell in love with the company after reading this on their site, “We only get one turn on this merry go round and we are dedicated to having a blast doing so. But if we only have one turn, can we serve as a model and example to others who will follow in our footsteps? We will do things right and we will do things wrong but at the end of the day we’ll have put our best effort forward.” So they are environmentally conscious, make a great tasting snack plus seem like a cool place to work? Even better.

Although the website recommends Smashies for kids above age 5 (because of the removable cap), this did not stop all three of my children from devouring them. The one year old (almost two) asked for Smashies several times rather than the Coo-coo’s that she is so fond of (actually she is fond of any type of dessert and calls everything in the dessert food group Coo-coo’s).

I am eating the very last Smashies pouch as I write this and I just realized that I will have to lie to my children in the morning when they ask for it. And believe me, they know that there is one left. I will just tell them “Daddy ate it.” That gets me out of so many things. ;)

The amazing folks at Smashies really want to share the love and they know that you will love Smashies as much as we do. They are giving away a 10-pack of their fabulous product to one lucky reader. To enter:

Where were smashies when I had two bottom teeth cross-checked from my mouth and could not eat solids for six months. This product should be in every NHL locker room. Oh and smashies look good for kiddos who have just had tooth fairy visits.

I think that the fact that they are mess free would be great. I had never heard of them before and hope to try them soon.
