RetailMeNot #OctoNovemCember & 5 Holiday Shopping Tips

Introducing OctoNovemCember™, a season of holiday shopping where consumers seek out Black Friday savings  every day. As an avid shopper, I am always on the lookout for great deals and opportunities to find new products.

In mid-August 2012, RetailMeNot and Ipsos Public Affairs surveyed more than 1,000 parents with children under the age of 18 and asked them their views on the economy and how it would impact their purchase decisions.

* 23% of respondents start shopping in early November
* 12% wait to start shopping until Black Friday/Cyber Monday
* Only 15% wait until after Cyber Monday to begin shopping.

It may not shock anyone that there is still a majority (54%) of consumers surveyed who said they finish their holiday shopping sometime between Black Friday and when they actually give away gifts during the holidays. Surprisingly, a large number of consumers surveyed, nearly 1 in 3 (32%), said they are done with their holiday shopping by the end of Cyber Monday!

WHAT IS OCTONOVEMCEMBER?

Pumpkin-Headed Turkey Claus was appalled at the madness surrounding one-day-only holiday sales. The squabbling and stampeding were too much for him to bear. So he created a special time of year that lets you get great deals at your own pace. 5 TIPS FOR HOLIDAY SHOPPING

1. Shop with a list.

I have a list running at all times for every family member that I regularly shop for. I never shop without a list because having a list keeps me focused and helps me to avoid impulse purchases.

2. Shop early.

I go to stores early on sale days for the best selection. Getting their early ensures that I get exactly what I came for.

3. Shop often.

Since stores are constantly getting deliveries, I tend to make a lot of trips to my favorite places. This means I find the best stuff and get the best deals.

4. Combine deals.

Many stores allow you to price match, combine coupons and even offer rebates. I view all of the circulars online at home before shopping and map out a strategy to maximize my shopping dollars.

5. Sign up for loyalty programs and/or company newsletters.

I get some great coupons and find out about some unadvertised deals just by signing up for loyalty programs and/or company newsletters. Every store I shop at has some sort of program or newsletter.
